Background: Trade directories suggest that the business was taken over around 1920 by Mrs Winifred Diaper who trades as a drapers. This helps to pinpoint that the sign was painted between 1906 and 1920.

Description: Advertisement for a chemist painted on the side wall of a shop on Heathfield Road. Trade directories list a Jnr Potter Atkinson from circa 1930 at the above premises trading as a chemist.
Sign: The signs is on a cream background where the name of the business ATKINSON is painted in a green decorative script set between on the upper row the word OPTICIAN and on the lower row CHEMIST.
Background: Jnr Potter also traded at 190-192 Birchfield Road and appears to have expand around 1930 to open the second premises on Heathfield Road. Atkinson Prescription Book Circa 1927 Library of Birmingham archives.

Description: Advertisement for Barber's Tea features their trademark illustration of Little Miss Barber.
Sign: Painted on a cream background with the companies name BARBER'S TEAS with the caption underneath right side Always Please and left side Little Miss Barber illustration is featured holding a cup of tea with her name labelled underneath. Her hat resembles a packet of Barber's branded tea.
Background: Rare extant ghost sign for Barber's Tea many were painted over in the later half of the twentieth century when Twinings acquired part of the firm. Barber's Tea cited the companies origins to 1797. Trade directories for Birmingham place them trading in the city from around 1869 as Barbers & Co.

Description: Advertisement for Bennett's furniture store painted on the side wall of the above the shop on Dudley Road.
Sign: Painted on a white background the black lettering read BENNETT'S FURNITURE STORES Satisfaction GUARANTEED.
Background: The sign was painted over in 2017 when it became a takeaway dessert food shop it's no longer visible.
Location: 16-20 Lodge Road, Hockley
Description: Advertisement for the Lyons brand of tea painted on the side wall of a former corner shop where it returns on to Heaton Street.
Sign: Painted with a blue background with white lettering and mustard outline. The traces of white paint over the surface of the sign were from a layer of emulsion painted used to cover up the sign which overtime worn off.
Background: Lyons & Co were British Tea manufactures established around 1894 by Joseph Lyons.
